One Family is currently accepting volunteers to help us with our visits Saturdays at County Jail #5 in San Bruno. This is a one-year commitment of one Saturday a month (12 Saturdays in total). We are specifically looking for people who love children, are sensitive to the stresses of family separation, and are team-players. Reliable transportation necessary. If interested, contact Ruth Morgan at email@example.com.
We are currently accepting interns from Smith School of Social Work, University of California at Berkeley School of Social Welfare, Cal State East Bay and the Write Institute. Please contact your school internship office if interested.
One Family is always accepting gifts to support and celebrate our families’ time together. We are looking for the following items:
- Transitional gifts (a small token a parent can give a child when they’re transferred from jail to prison – for example: glow in the dark stars, journals, writing sets with stamps!)
- Birthday & holiday gifts
- Therapeutic games and toys (kinetic sand, doll houses, finger paints, etc)
- Nutritional snacks
- Gas cards & BART cards (many of our families are traveling from as far as Stockton and Los Angeles so any small donation can help make that visit a little easier)
Community Works is always accepting donations. You are able to specify “One Family” as the designation for your gift.
