Who we serve
Young people ages 13-19 who have incarcerated parents and live in Alameda County, San Francisco or Contra Costa.
What we do
Behind every parent in jail or prison, there are children who are serving time as well. Social stigma, financial deprivation, household instability, and isolation are the markers of families whose parents are behind bars. Our work is twofold: to create a community that allows our young people to use their voice, pride, and power; and to support them in creating policy change that reflects the needs of youth and families with an incarcerated loved one.
Our team members not only participate, they create the program themselves, instigating research projects, developing curriculum and advocating for state and local policy change. This includes trainings for law enforcement, doctors, therapists, attorneys and others whose work includes decisions and perspectives that can change the lives of the young people we serve.
