Why do you do what you do? I live by the Dolores Huerta quote, “Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, every minute a chance to change the world.” I am a passionate Latinx, raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, with roots in Guatemala and El Salvador. Her parents taught her resilience, compassion, and the importance of sisterhood and community, having been raised with three older sisters and three brothers. Being exposed to domestic violence, street violence, and drug addiction from a young age, I bring compassion and a desire to dismantle the systems of oppression that have targeted communities of color.
Over the last few years, I have supported system-impacted individuals and expanded her knowledge and experience in community organizing, political advocacy, and cultural healing. As a Program Manager, I am committed to restoring hope and empowering my community to stand in their truth and use their voice to fight against the system that has silenced them because of their identity. I have a degree in Psychology and Social Action, which I utilize in my work as a community advocate and healer.
When I’m not at CW I enjoy spending time with mi familia, expressing myself through creative art, journaling, reading, and walks in nature. Sylvie joined CWW in 2019.
