April 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to The Circle: Community Works April 2026 Newsletter!

This edition, titled “Justice Demands Courage,” highlights our vision for the 2026 Legislative Season. As we honor the legacy of ProjectWHAT!, we are taking a “Big Swing” in a challenging legislative climate to turn systemic critique into tangible freedom for our youth and families.

Justice Demands Courage: We sat down with our Advocacy and Organizing Manager, Kat Sayally, to discuss navigating the current political landscape in Sacramento and the radical courage required to move from “Rights to Realities”.

The “Big Swing” (AB 1922): Community Works is co-sponsoring AB 1922, the “Do No Harm Act”. This critical bill seeks to end the shackling of incarcerated patients—including youth—in community hospitals, ensuring medical care is provided with dignity.

Authentic Engagement: We remain committed to ensuring that individuals with lived experience are authentically equipped and empowered to lead in every space, rather than just being assigned roles based on their past.

Tactical Narratives & Budgets: Our strategy includes budget transparency as a tool for change. By analyzing the $100 million increase to the SF Sheriff’s Department, we can demonstrate what these resources could have achieved if invested in our schools and communities instead.

Invest in Humanity: Use our Double the Donation feature to see if your employer will match your gift. Your support directly fuels the “big swings” needed to sustain our mission and foster radical hope. Read More…
